Re: Weird homebrew antenna issue
Quick update, I found another calculator that said I had too many windings, so I removed a bunch and now am quasi-resonant for 20m, resonant with a tuner but that is to be expected with these antennas.

Re: Weird homebrew antenna issue
Thanks for the response, but I can't access the ends of the coil as they are inside the base.
The first version was made the same way, but with a bigger bottle and that one works fine. I'm not quite sure of where the issue is.

Re: Try my 3D-printed single paddle key
Hi Mike, I really like your idea and design! I'm just getting into 3D print design and am soaking up as much engineering as possible. I have a background with a desktop CNC, but 3D printing is totally different. I really like the way you incorporated the fat and stubby spring, that seems to be reall...

Weird homebrew antenna issue
Hi All, I have a kinda weird situation with a homebrew 20m QRP antenna I'm making. I call it the (j) A (nk) X2 because it's a janky DIY copy of the AX2. Instead of using a toroid in the windings, I'm using an air coil. The first prototype I built works fine, however it's a little bit "bulky&quo...

Advice for deploying a Delta Loop antenna
This past Sunday I took my new homebrew 20m Delta Loop out for a spin and tuning, but forgot to bring my supplies to cut and solder so I just used a tuner. That wasn't the tough part. The tough part was trying to deploy it without tangling itself up or being lopsided. Any good tips on how to best de...

Re: My first QRP POTA Activation was a Failure!
Thanks, Todd! And my apologies for my delayed reply... That's the one thing that has always interested me about ham radio: of all the things you can do, it's always a new adventure when you change just one thing. And yes, I agree that just getting out to a park and operating is a success, I am also ...

Rookie Mistakes Made while Hunting
Hey All, Just back from a hunt this morning, and boy did I make some rookie mistakes. But I guess that's to be expected as I AM A POTA ROOKIE! Anyway, I've written up another report, really just a creative exercise in self-indulgence, but also helps keep me at least somewhat social. Hope you e...

A hunter's perspective
I thought I'd create a field report from my hunting activities, too. https://briansden.wordpress.com/2025/08/07/a-pota-hunting-perspective/ I kind of like the hunting report, even though we all stared out hunting, it shows the lengths we go to outside of our shacks in order to enjoy collecting Activ...

My first QRP POTA Activation was a Failure!
Good Day everyone! First time posting in here and wanted to share my first experience as a QRP POTA Activator. At least I can say it was a learning experience. I did enjoy myself, though, and can't wait to do it again at another park local to me. https://briansden.wordpress.com/2025/08/07/attempted-...

Throw Lines and trees
I've been through all the posts and don't see my question so I figured I'd start a new post to introduce myself. My name is Brian and I'm a General class operator. I'm a former radio officer for my town's RACES team but my interest in ham radio lies in experimenting and minimum necessary, hence why ...
