Maybe this will seem somewhat off topic, but all in all, most transmitters and receivers start with an oscillator, so ... :)

To get to the point, the oscillator is described in this US Patent

dating back to 1980 and assigned to NASA; while there are a lot of oscillators, this one is really simple/cheap and offers a number of interesting characteristics, that's why I thought to post it here
