Maybe this will seem somewhat off topic, but all in all, most transmitters and receivers start with an oscillator, so ... 
To get to the point, the oscillator is described in this US Patent

dating back to 1980 and assigned to NASA; while there are a lot of oscillators, this one is really simple/cheap and offers a number of interesting characteristics, that's why I thought to post it here
